Back in the Saddle Again

The boys at Pist-N-Broke are great riders and tackle some amazing terrain, but their DVD "Back in the Saddle Again" doesn't live up to the promise of the talent and beauty it is shot with.

This is the type of video that should be played in the background of a bike shop to get people juiced up to buy mountain bikes, but is not the best for sitting down and watching straight through.

There are lots of high-flying stunts and if you just want to see big air and big crashes, then this is a good video for you. However, the video has no story line that I could pick up. It is simply a collection of random music videos in random places with random groups of airborne riders.

In one section, a storyline almost appears when the boys are expecting a 3 hour climb up a mountain so that they can ride back down in 90 minutes. The journey takes much longer than they anticipate, but instead of showing us the incredible downhill footage that would have shown why it was worth the effort, they just cut to another scene.

I did enjoy watching the section at the 2003 Red Bull Rampage. Some of the cliffs that the riders drop-off were amazing and the crashes were even more epic.

The North Shore scenery was amazing and some of those tricks were a nice change of pace.

Some big name riders appear in the DVD like Darren Berreclothe, Wade Simmons and Thomas Vanderhamm, but don't expect to get any insight into how they approach tackling the huge feats in the DVD or what motivates them to ride the way they do.

Half the time, you have no clue where these guys are riding and you never know what inspired them to choose these locations.

The soundtrack is your typical extreme sports high-energy rock. Not bad, but not great either.

Their are about 40 minutes of big tricks and grand vistas and if that's your thing, then you should buy this dvd off of Amazon.com - Back in the Saddle Again is for sale here. However, I think you could find better ways to spend your money.
